Circa 2005 · Private Commission

Some designs begin with a sketch. This one began with a diamond that had already lived a life of its own.

A longtime client arrived with an extraordinary emerald cut acquired through an estate. Just over five carats and nearly Asscher in its proportions, the stone carried no documented history—only the quiet confidence that comes from exceptional craftsmanship and the passage of time.

In 2005, I found myself deeply inspired by the architecture and geometry of the Art Deco movement. Rather than creating a modern ring around an old diamond, I wanted to build something that felt as though it had always existed. A piece you might discover beneath the glass of an antique jeweler’s showcase, impossible to date and impossible to forget.

Every element was made specifically for this commission. Natural carré-cut diamonds were carefully selected for the shoulders, while each sapphire in the halo was individually cut to follow the exact outline of the center stone. Nothing was pulled from inventory. Every proportion, every angle, and every stone served a single purpose: to make the ring feel authentic.

When it was finished, it was exactly as I had imagined.

Not a reproduction.

Not an antique.

Simply a new chapter for a remarkable diamond whose story was still being written.
